Exploring Glencoe & the Highlands

On day one, we travel from lowland Scotland to Highland Scotland.

A superb journey through the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

After a morning coffeee, we continue to Glencoe.

Glencoe attracts visitors for its awe-inspiring scenery, walking, climbing and of course history.

Great photo opportunities and incredible views are what makes Glencoe so memorable.

However, hearing the tragic tale of the Clan MacDonald whilst standing in the Glen makes it unforgettable experience.

In 1692 The Clan MacDonlad of Glencoe suffer a terrible fate which still resinates with the people of Scotland to this day.

Glenfinnan Viaduct

One of our main stops in the afternoon is the famous 19th-century Glenfinnan Viaduct.

The incredible rail bridge spans the glen for over 1000 ft and is a classic peice of railway infrastructure.

Better known in modern times as the Harry Potter Bridge, the Glenfinnan Viaduct is instantly recognisable as the bridge upon which the Hogwarts Express travels.

The Glen has witnessed so much over the centuries.

Bonnie Prince Charlie landed here in 1745 to rally the highland Clans in what is to become the final Jacobite Rebellion.

The Glenfinnan views and history make it an unforgettabe stop on our Scottish Guided Tour.

Capital of the Highlands

In the early evening we check into Inverness.

Inverness is the largest city and the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands. For the best Scotland tour and experience, Inverness is a must-see.

Nestled on the River Ness, the small city has an excellent choice of restuarants, traditional pubs and shops.

Situated on Scotland’s northeast coast where the River Ness meets the Moray Firth makes this wee city an outstanding overnight stop.

The superb choice of Hotels, B&B’s, shops and local eateries means there really is a great choice for all travellers in the “Capital of the Highlands”

Culloden Moor

On the morning or our second day, we travel the short distance to Culloden Moor.

The Battle of Culloden was the final battle of the Jacobite rising of 1745. On April 16th 1746, the Jacobite army of Charles Edward Stuart was decisively defeated by a British government force under William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, at Culloden Moor.

Culloden is an emotive and special place for both Scots and international visitors alike.

Our 2 day Inverness & Highlands Tour means you have time to take it all in and experience Culloden Moor.

Clava Cairns

A short journey from Culloden are Clava Cairns. A well-preserved Bronze Age cemetery complex of passage graves; ring cairns, kerb cairns and standing stones in a beautiful setting.

Standing stones are not uncommon is Scotland but are always very special to touch, walk around and experience.

The Outlander TV series has certainly added to their popularity

A hugely significant and exceptionally well preserved prehistoric site, Clava Cairns is a fantastic example of the distant history of Highland Scotland, dating back about 4,000 years.

Highland Folk Museum

In the afternoon we visit the Highland Folk Museum.

The museum and open-air visitor attraction is a great stop in the Scottish Highlands.

It was founded by Dr. Isabel Frances Grant in 1935 and is an opportunity to sample first hand Highland life of centuries past. The TV show Outlander filmed here regularly for Season 1 & 2

You will experience how Scottish Highlanders lived centuries ago.

The cafe at the Folk Museum is lovely for coffee, brunch or lunch

The Hermitage Woodland Walk & Ossians Hall

Come face to face with the thunderous Black Linn Falls – best viewed from Ossian’s Hall.

Breathe in the earthy woodland and tang of pine needles as you wander along the banks of the River Braan.

Douglas firs tower over the paths leading to the roaring Black Linn Falls, where the Dukes of Athol have been planting “big trees” for hundreds of years.

We return to our drop off point in the early evening
